What Could You Do With Just 2 More Inches?

Last month I got my hair cut. I actually cut off quite a bit… 8 inches to be exact.

I had the appointment for a while and I knew that I wanted to take off some of the length. It was just getting in the way. I settled on cutting off 6 inches.

Six inches seemed like a lot of hair so I started doing some research to see if anyone could use 6 inches of hair. As it turned out Pantene Pro-V has a non-profit, called Pantene Beautiful Lengths, that makes real hair wigs for women who have undergone chemo.

However, the minimum length they will accept is 8 inches.

Eight inches seemed like a whole lot.

I thought about it for a couple of days and decided that my 2 more inches could make all the difference for someone who doesn’t have any inches.

And so it happened. I hacked off those eight inches, stuffed them in a manilla envelope and prayed that the recipient would be blessed.

I would be lying if I didn’t mention that I really miss my hair.
(it will grow back and it is just hair)

Yes, it was a bit of a sacrifice but at the same time it was only 2 more inches.

My question for you today is…

What are you already doing that you could give a “couple more inches” to beautifully impact the life of another?

Here are some ideas to get you started…

What if you doubled you dinner recipe tonight and dropped it off for your neighbor who’s husband just had surgery?
You are cooking anyway.

What if you offered just to drive the carpool for the mama with a newborn? No strings attached. No rotation.
You have to drive there anyway.

What if you invited the lonely widower down the street to join your family at the park?
You are taking the kids anyway.

What if you took a minute to truly ask the checker at the grocery store about their day?
You are standing there anyway.

What if you asked your neighbor if they needed anything from the store?
You are going anyway.

With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching there are lots of posts about what everyone is thankful for…

But what about the second half of the word?

giving

Let’s start giving our extra 2 inches to help others.
It can really be quite simple, inexpensive, and fulfilling.

For the rest of the month, I challenge you to give your own version of 2 more inches, let’s encourage and inspire one another to do so by using the hashtag #giving2moreinches.

Come on, this could be really fun and exciting and we can get the kids involved in this too!

You guys, my tribe, are amazing!
I can’t wait to see what you will come up with.

  1. Great idea christen!! I have been thinking the same on how I can give to those in need. Love reading your post love your honesty & genuin heart. You won’t miss those 2 inches next time you see a person w no hair who is going through chemo. The blessing your heart will receive will be much greater than those 2 inches….. God is good !!

    • I actually just did this about a month ago and I am happy to hear others are doing the same. Strangely about three weeks ago I also doubled my dinner for a friend whose husband is having surgery. I really enjoy your positivity on this blog and am glad I stumbled onto it. This is the first time I felt compelled to comment since apparently we’ve recently shared a brainwave!

      • So glad you commented! It’s nice to know there are real people out there! 😃 Hope to hear more from you in the future!
