Well that little “under contract” placard has adorned the “For Sale” in my front yard once again. I was so gun shy to even write this post after it all fell apart last time that I waited a few weeks. However, things are looking solid and we will close on this house on February 28th.
It often feels surreal. The whole experience has been so exhausting… at first everything went so fast; we made the decision, Shane got the job, we put the house on the market, and it went under contract within 2 weeks.
It was all good until it wasn’t.
By the time the contract fell apart and we got the house back on the market, it was November. In case you live under a rock I will gently remind you that it was an election year (read: bad timing for selling a house). You know what came after the election? Thanksgiving! And wouldn’t you know… Christmas was next. In other words, we had our house on the market through the worst possible time of the year and yet we still had a ton of showings. It was a little stressful to say the least. But just like our agent said it would… it really picked up after the first of the year and we were under contract that first week of 2017.
Now it’s the first week of February and everything seems to be moving quickly once again. We are in the process of arranging moving trucks and filling out school withdraw forms. It’s starting to feel real and exciting and scary.
We sure love this house and have since the first time we stepped foot in the place. It has been a beautiful place for my family to grow in ways I couldn’t have imagined. The Colorado chapter as a whole was oh so good for my family. We tried new things, went on many adventures, and truly enjoyed more house guests and visitors than ever before.
With a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes I am joyfully closing the Colorado chapter.
As we look toward the future, we have found a lovely neighborhood in North San Diego County. It will keep Shane’s commute under 15 minutes and our kids in some top rated schools. I trust the next chapter will be as good as the last. (I think I have to at this point, right?)
Last week we found a house that we love in that neighborhood and made an offer. Things are moving a bit slowly but I am really hoping this one will work out. We have not secured the contract as we are still going back and forth on the details. If this all works out, we will be able to move straight from this house to the next. Which we feel would be the smoothest option for the kiddos. They would be able to set up their room and get started in school without having to bridge the gap in a temporary living situation.
I guess if it is meant to be, it will be!
(If I had a dollar for every time I have choked out those words in the past 5 months, we could pay cash for the next house!)
Trusting God and His timing has been my biggest lesson learned throughout this process.
I have learned to surrender Christen’s plans and trust His. Apparently I haven’t quite mastered the art because it seems as though we are still practicing.
In this chaotic time of transition I am so grateful for all of you who have asked how we are doing, what the heck is going on, and all the love and help we have already received. Our family has been surrounded by a great tribe of people and for that I am insanely grateful.
Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers as things come to a close here and we embark on the next Sprattacular chapter.
It’s the final countdown…
