FaKebook Friday — The Who, What, Where, When, Why?

A quick recap/definition of FaKebook Friday:

On FaKebook Friday I will give an example of a FaKebook vs a Real Life version of the same story, essentially mocking the way we all have a tendency to put a spin on the lovely things we share on Facebook.

FaKebook is the version of the story that you want everyone to see or know and Real Life is the version that you don’t really share.

{FaKebook Version}

Isn’t it silly how we all post these great things about ourselves when in fact…it is hardly the truth for most of us.

{Real Life Version}

I am sick and tired of seeing your perfect life displayed all over my Facebook news feed, especially if I know you in real life… like at all!

Chances are… the version of yourself that you display on Facebook for all to see is nothing like the real life version you are living on daily basis.

Don’t get me wrong… I am by no means, NO MEANS!… asking you to air out your dirty laundry in my feed either…Ain’t nobody got time for that.

All that I am asking is that you keep it real.

Was the field trip really as sweet as you portrayed it? Or was it a nightmare that you wished you had never signed up for?

Was the home-cooked meal really that great? Or did your baby throw noodles across the room while your toddler threw a fit in time-out, and your tween just looked on… disgusted with it all?

Was that family hike as relaxing and joyful as your pictures displayed? Or did you end up carrying a kid for 2/3’s of the trip, help one take a dump in the woods, and get in a fight with your husband over which way the car was parked?

I don’t really care to hear the gory details of your “perfect post” but I can’t help but wonder sometimes about what was really going on.

What were the expressions just before and after the picture the was taken?

How did your perfect day end?

Did you really go to Disneyland without any meltdowns?

What I am asking of you…

When there is more to the story than what your sweet little post portrays… Will you hashtag it with #FaKebookFriday? You don’t have to make any confessions. Anyone who knows, will, well… they will just know.

It’s just a way for you to have a little sign of relief. Let your guard down a bit and breathe out a big sigh of FaKebook liberation.

You don’t have to live up to everyone else’s highlight reel. Your behind the scenes blooper version of “Real Life” is beautiful… It is where the creator of the universe has you right now.

Embrace it. Live it. Love it.

Will you join me? Will you take my challenge? What are your thoughts? Do you have a FaKebook you would be willing to share?
