FaKebook Friday – Sticky/Green/Sprinkle/Chocolate Chip Pancake Edition

A quick recap/definition of FaKebook Friday:

On FaKebook Friday I will give an example of a FaKebook vs a Real Life version of the same story, essentially mocking the way we all have a tendency to put a spin on the things we share on Facebook.

FaKebook is the version of the story that you want everyone to see or know and Real Life is the version that you don’t really share for whatever reason.

{FaKebook Version}

Last Sunday I shared…

“A few years ago Shane gifted Sunday dinners to me. ‪#‎breakfastfordinner‪ #‎lotsofchocolatechips ‪#‎myhusbandiscoolerthanyourhusband ‪#‎kidsthinktheyareinheaven ‪#‎sprattpack

And this sweet picture…

FAKEBOOK!!! I mean, really people? Anytime it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
(Didn’t your parents teach you that when the people in the mall were trying to get you to sign up for their crap?)

{Real Life Version}

First and foremost… My husband is cooler than yours and I will take you out if you want to challenge me.

Secondly, he really did gift Sunday dinner to me.
However, they have been a little fewer and further in between as time has gone on.
(Shane, if you are reading this… go ahead and assume that was a hint.)

Don’t we all have a tendency to make the great things that happen every once in while look like it is our everyday life?

We lead people to believe…

I always have a great hair day

My kids always look cute in public

I have such a great way of finding humor in the trenches of Costco… hahaha

When in real life… a pancake night, made by dad, might have been a little more like this…

Shane saw that the tempo of the house was tanking. (Mom is the house thermometer… when she’s up everyone is up and when she is down…  well)

Last Sunday wasn’t looking good.

In swoops Super Dad.
DUN, DUN, DUN, DUH, DUH

{that is supposed to sound like a super hero theme song, work with me}

“I’ll make dinner tonight. It’s Sunday.” – Super Dad

“Sigh of relief” – Me (the not so super mom)

And then it began.
I should have known better.
Everything comes with a price.
He cranked up the music in the living and got to work.
{Did I mention that I am crazy about this man? And by crazy… I mean that I love him like crazy and he makes me crazy}

First Super Dad asks the children, “What color do you want your pancakes?”

[Color? Like with food coloring? But, I just cleaned all that awful grout. Ok, he is just having fun with the kids… They are blessed. I am blessed. We are blessed. Deep breath.]

Next, I hear Super Dad ask them, “Which sprinkles do you want?”

[Sprinkles? I know the word cake is in the title, but we don’t need to have dessert for dinner.]

Then, Super Dad asks, “Do you want to put on your own chocolate chips?”

[I give up. I guess we are having dessert for dinner. Confession – From time to time, I put chocolate chips in their pancakes too. But then, (like any mom who is trying to be cool), I send them off to their sweet under-payed teacher, not to bed!]

At this point… I had to surrender.

My kids had a wonderful evening, redeemed by the one and only #1 DAD.
(That IS what the shirt says.)

I was grateful to have a night out of the kitchen.

Listening to my people giggle in the kitchen and seeing the pride on their faces as they admired their masterpieces was worth it all.

It was worth the monstrous pile of dishes I was left, the green grout that I had to clean, the sprinkles that were EVERYWHERE,  the syrup covered table, and the struggle to get 4 kids on a sugar high to go to sleep.

See that face?

Shane did that.

He is that great.

And I am grateful.

  1. The whole scene is histerical! I love it!!
    It seems God has a sense of humor when creating Dads…they turn up the music, they get the kids all crazy and loud, they make, in my case, green eggs and ham (only twice ;))…but the kids have the biggest smiles on their faces and life for that moment in all its crazy- is amazing! #soblessedtoo
